Panoramic view produced using the Nodal UR10 Ring Mount pano head Business kit
We were lucky enough to visit the Greek island of Symi in 2015. Albeit very late in the season, we had smooth seas and fair weather most of the journey. Arriving here just around dusk we had just enough time to shoot photos for this panorama.
Symi is one of the myriad of smaller islands, this one of just 13km x 8km is one of the Dodecanese chain to be found just off the Turkish coast north of the much bigger island or Rhodes/Rodos.
We photographed this panorama using the Nodal Ninja UR10 Business kit. Our technique was to take photos at 90º intervals, a total of 4 images, giving 4 points of the compass for a full rotation. You can also see from the images below that we have the camera rotated at a 60º angle rather than vertical, to give the maximum field of view from corner to corner of the images, this ensures the top of the panorama 'Zenith' is covered, while just leaving a small hole at the bottom 'Nadir' of he stitched panorama, which in this example we have hidden with a 'mirror ball' effect generated by Pano2VR prior to outputting the final panorama movie as a HTML5 compatible file.
Example Image thumbnails (4 photos):
Images were stitched with 'PTGui Pro' and then published for web and mobile viewing using the Pano2VR software to produce the panorama above in HTML5 format, multiple resolutions of the files are created so allowing quick loading and viewing on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Hardware checklist for producing this panorama:
Sigma 8mm Fish-eye lens. Canon 650D 'crop frame' DSLR camera. Nodal Ninja UR10 Business kit mounted to EZ Leveller MKII ('Easy Leveller') onto tripod.
