Panoramic view produced using the Nodal UR10 Ring Mount pano head Business kit
We were lucky enough to have a bright clear day as a reward following our climb through the tunnels carved into the rock face to reach the top of the Castle and produce the panorama above.
The Castle gained notoriety towards the end of the Second World War when German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel (1891–1944) defended Normandy against the Allies in World War II from a bunker located here. The castle also was Rommel's headquarters.
We photographed this panorama using the Nodal Ninja UR10 Business kit. Our technique was to take 3 'bracketed' photos at 90º intervals, a total of 12 images, giving 4 points of the compass for a full rotation. You can also see from the images below that we have the camera rotated at a 60º angle rather than vertical, to give the maximum field of view from corner to corner of the images, this ensures the top of the panorama 'Zenith' is covered, while just leaving a small hole at the bottom 'Nadir' of he stitched panorama, which in this example we have hidden with a 'mirror ball' effect generated by Pano2VR prior to outputting the final panorama movie as a HTML5 compatible file.
Example Image thumbnails (4 sets of 3 bracketed photos):
Images were stitched with 'PTGui Pro' and then published for web and mobile viewing using the Pano2VR software to produce the panorama above in HTML5 format, multiple resolutions of the files are created so allowing quick loading and viewing on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Hardware checklist for producing this panorama:
Sigma 8mm Fish-eye lens. Canon 650D 'crop frame' DSLR camera. Nodal Ninja UR10 Business kit mounted to EZ Leveller MKII ('Easy Leveller') onto tripod.
